A Message to EBGIS from Consul General Hans-Ulrich Südbeck

Consul General Hans-Ulrich Südbeck, Germany's highest ranking representative in the Pacific Northwest, sent the following message of greeting to the entire East Bay German International School community:

Our two countries Germany and the United States are bound together by history and culture, as well as by strong trade, diplomatic, and educational ties. Our main task at the German Consulate General is to maintain and strengthen the relationship between our two countries. An important component of our work to nurture this relationship is to support and promote institutions like the East Bay German International School (EBGIS) which try to build bridges between our two cultures.

The dual-language education provided by EBGIS is a vital resource for German families in the San Francisco Bay Area. Moreover, by welcoming American and other families with roots outside Germany into its community, EBGIS brings cultural enrichment to the Bay Area and deepens ties between Germany and the US. In this age of ever growing global connectedness, a multilingual education with an international perspective benefits not only EBGIS students themselves but Germany and the US as a whole. I look forward to seeing the EBGIS students of today become tomorrow’s international leaders in science and technology, humanities, the arts, and wherever their talents and interests may lead them.

I wish the East Bay German International School continued success in its important work of educating global citizens, and a bright future as a center of German language and culture in the Bay Area.

With Warm Regards,

Hans-Ulrich Südbeck
Consul General
