The East Bay German International School (“EBGIS”) wants you to be familiar with how we collect, use and disclose information. This Privacy Policy describes our practices in connection with information that we collect through or in connection with our website at www.ebgis.org (the “Site”). By using our Site, you agree to this Privacy Policy.

Personal Information

Use of Personal Information

We and our service providers may use Personal Information:

  • To respond to your inquiries, process admissions and enrollment applications and transactions, fulfill your requests, schedule tours and visits, communicate with you, complete your purchases, and communicate with you about any of the foregoing.
  • To send administrative information to you, such as changes to our terms, conditions, and policies, as well as communications about EBGIS, including, news, updates, promotional materials, newsletters, and information about events.
  • To personalize your experience on the Site and to facilitate social sharing functionality.
  • For activities related to our internal development and public benefit purpose, such as data analysis, improving or modifying our Site, identifying usage trends, and operating and expanding educational activities.
  • For activities related to your child’s enrollment at EBGIS, including payment processing, record keeping, documenting compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and the like.

The Site also contains links to other third-party websites, such as Facebook, Twitter, and Google. When you interact with third-party websites from our website, you give us permission to obtain certain information that you make available on those websites. The information that we obtain from these third-party websites depends upon the privacy policies of the corresponding websites as well as the privacy settings you have established on such websites. If you visit a third-party website then you will be subject to such website’s privacy policy and terms of use.

If you submit any Personal Information relating to other people to us in connection with the Site, you represent that you have the authority to do so and to permit us to use the information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

We may also collect and use for school related purposes other personal information that you provide on to us (through your account or otherwise), such as physician information, emergency numbers, academic information, and demographic information.

We may also provide the opportunity to participate in fundraising campaigns, make donations, pay tuition, and purchase other goods and services through the Site. We work with a payment processor and other service providers in connection with such payments. If you decide to make a payment through the Site, we may – either directly or through our service providers – collect certain financial information (such as your payment method or billing address), but we do not collect or store your credit card or account numbers. Our service provider may store this financial information, and the storage and usage of the information you submit to them is subject to the service provider’s privacy policy and terms of use

Disclosure of Personal Information

Your Personal Information may be disclosed:

To our employees, agents, and business affiliates who help us deliver services and operate the Site.

To our third party service providers who support us in providing services to you.

To your friends associated with your social media account, to other website users and as well as to your social media account provider, in connection with your social sharing activity. By connecting your social media account you authorize us to share information with your social media account provider, and you understand that the use of the information we share will be governed by the social media site’s privacy policy.

We may also use and disclose your Personal Information (a) to comply with applicable laws and regulations, to respond to requests from public and government authorities, to cooperate with law enforcement, or for other legal reasons; (b) to enforce our terms and conditions; and (c) to protect our rights, privacy, safety or property, and/or that of our affiliates, you, or others.

Other Information” is any information that does not reveal your specific identity or does not directly relate to an identifiable individual. Other Information we may collect includes:

  • IP address and location data
  • Information collected through cookies and other technologies
  • Demographic and other information provided by you that does not reveal your specific identity, or information that has been aggregated in a manner that it no longer reveals your specific identity

Collection of Other Information

We and our service providers may collect Other Information in a variety of ways, including:

Through your browser or device: Certain information is collected by most browsers or automatically through your device, such as your Media Access Control (MAC) address, computer type (Windows or Macintosh), screen resolution, operating system name and version, device manufacturer and model, language, and Internet browser type and version. We use this information to ensure that the Site functions properly.

Using cookies: Cookies are pieces of information stored on the computer that you are using. Cookies allow us to collect information such as browser type, time spent on the Site, pages visited, language preferences, and other anonymous traffic data. We use the information for security purposes, to facilitate navigation, to display information more effectively, and to personalize your experience. We also gather statistical information about use of the Site to continually improve its functionality, understand how it is used and assist us with resolving questions about it. We do not currently respond to browser do-not-track signals.

If you do not want information collected through the use of cookies, most browsers allow you to automatically decline cookies, or be given the choice of declining or accepting a particular cookie (or cookies) from a particular site. If, however, you do not accept cookies, you may experience some inconvenience in your use of the Site.

Using pixel tags and other similar technologies: Pixel tags (also known as web beacons and clear GIFs) may be used to, among other things, track the actions of Site users and email recipients, measure the success of our marketing campaigns and compile statistics about Site usage and response rates.

Using Adobe Flash technology (including Flash Local Shared Objects (“Flash LSOs”)) and other similar technologies: We may use Flash LSOs and other technologies to, among other things, collect and store information about your use of the Site. If you do not want Flash LSOs stored on your computer, you can adjust the settings of your Flash player to block Flash LSO storage using the tools contained in the Site Storage Settings Panel. You can also go to the Global Storage Settings Panel and follow the instructions (which may explain, for example, how to delete existing Flash LSOs (referred to as “information”), how to prevent Flash LSOs from being placed on your computer without your being asked, and how to block Flash LSOs that are not delivered by the operator of the page you are on at the time). Please note that setting the Flash Player to restrict or limit acceptance of Flash LSOs may reduce or impede the functionality of some Flash applications.

This Privacy Policy does not address, and we are not responsible for, the privacy, information or other practices of any third parties, including any third party operating any site or service to which the Site links. Please review any third-party privacy policies to learn how they handle your Personal Information.

Security

We use reasonable organizational, technical and administrative measures designed to protect Personal Information within our organization. Unfortunately, no data transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. If you have reason to believe that your interaction with us is no longer secure, please immediately notify us in accordance with the “Contacting Us” section below.

Choices and Access

In addition, if you would like to update Personal Information that you have provided to us, you may contact us at contact@ebgis.org. You promise to provide true, accurate, current and complete information about yourself (and the children for whom you are a parent or legal guardian) when you correspond with us. If you provide any information that is untrue, inaccurate, or incomplete, or we have reasonable grounds to suspect any of the foregoing, we have the right to refuse any and all current or future use of the Site (or any portion thereof).

You may unsubscribe from MailChimp and email list communications (such as newsletters) by clicking on the “unsubscribe” link in the email, or, for certain other emails, by contacting us at contact@ebgis.org (although, so long as you have a child enrolled at EBIGS, you may not opt-out of service related communications).

We may retain archived copies of information for a commercially reasonable time to comply with applicable laws and regulations.

If you are a California resident, you are entitled by California Civil Code Section 1798.83 to request certain information regarding our disclosure of your Personal Information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes. To make such a request, please contact us at contact@ebgis.org specifying that you seek your “California Customer Choice Notice.”

Use of Site by Minors

The Site is not directed to individuals under the age of thirteen (13). If you provide us with personal information regarding a child under the age of 13, you (a) represent and warrant to us that you are the parent or legal guardian of that child and have authority to provide this information to us, and (b) consent to our collection of the personal information of such children. If we become aware that we have received personal information from a visitor to the Site under the age of 13 and we do not have parental or legal guardian consent, we will delete the information from our records.

Jurisdictional Issues

The Site is controlled and operated by us from the United States and is not intended to subject us to the laws or jurisdiction of any state, country or territory other than that of the United States.

Updates to this Privacy Policy

We may change this Privacy Policy. The “Last Updated” line at the top of this page indicates when this Privacy Policy was last revised. Any changes will become effective when we post the revised Privacy Policy on the Site. Your use of the Site following these changes means that you accept the revised Privacy Policy.
